It’s an enchanting city full of monuments, archeological sites, beaches and sights that boast the local history, the traditions and the culture of the people.
Your walk around the city starts from the old town and particularly from the historic centre and the Municipal Market which opened in 1913 and accommodates more than 70 shops with local products. If you walk north in Mousouron street, you turn left and you arrive at the Stivanadika (Cretan boots makers) area, one of the most popular tourists roads in the city of Chania. Take then Akti Topazi street and you will meet the famous Muslim mosque “Kiutzuk Hasan” which hosts several exhibitions during the summer. This wonderful seaside walk will lead you to the castle that hosts the Maritime Museum of Crete and the Historical Folklore and Archeological society of Crete. From Douka street and you will arrive at the centre of the aristocratic neighborhood of the city with the aristocratic houses of the Venetian noble. The Palazzo of Renier family built in the 15th century, is the most evident example of this culture with the small family chapel of Agios Nikolaos and its impressive entrance.
